  • Reactive safety practices: Teams rushed to collect surveillance footage only after an incident, rather than preventing hazards in time.

These issues reflected the industry's lack of digital, real-time management. Combining IT expertise with firsthand site challenges, he founded iDaka to build a worker-friendly intelligent site assistant powered by AI and IoT—not only issuing timely alerts, but proactively guiding action and reducing incidents.

2. Core Architecture: Putting AI, IoT and Cloud Services into Practice

1. Sensor Data Collection: Broad, Multidimensional Coverage

Sensors developed by iDaka and its partners collect data on people, equipment, materials and the environment:

  • Environmental sensors: Monitor gases such as CO and CO₂, dust including PM2.5/PM10, heat hazards and other site conditions.

  • Vibration and tilt sensors: Mounted on cranes, pile drivers or structural supports, they detect unusual movement and warn of equipment faults or structural displacement.

  • Smart positioning: LoRa, BLE and UWB track people and machinery to help prevent dangerous interactions or entry into hazardous areas.

  • Vehicle surround monitoring: Six vehicle-mounted edge-computing CCTV cameras detect people and vehicles approaching machinery's hazardous operating radius.

  • Protective-equipment detection: AI checks for hard hats, reflective vests and safety harnesses, issuing immediate reminders when requirements are not met.

Together, these sensors provide around-the-clock, site-wide coverage and the data foundation for AI analysis and decision-making.

2. AI Analysis: Real-Time Alerts and Incident Review

Sensor readings reach the iDaka cloud platform over LoRa, NB-IoT, BLE, Wi-Fi, 5G and other communications networks. iDaka's in-house AI algorithms support:

  • Environmental hazard prediction: Gas or PM2.5 exceedances trigger notifications to managers and workers, with instructions to pause work or initiate power shutdown and ventilation.

  • Personnel and equipment tracking: Positioning modules and dynamic maps show who is in high-risk zones and trigger on-site alerts when someone enters a hazardous area.

  • Equipment fault warnings: Unusual vibration frequencies or amplitudes indicate potential failures, enabling early maintenance or inspection.

  • Incident reconstruction: Complete timestamps, footage and sensor readings before and after an incident support cause analysis, compliance reviews and insurance claims.

AI analysis turns reactive responses into proactive warnings, reducing incidents and supporting accountability and clarification of responsibility.

3. Cloud Dashboard: Centralized Monitoring and Integrated Management

iDaka provides an intuitive dashboard through its management interface and AI BOX:

  • Building maps and site views: Display multiple site layouts with color-coded personnel and equipment locations.

  • Alarm event lists: Show events chronologically with priorities—for example, high for gas exceedances or emergency shutdowns, medium for dust thresholds, and low for missing hard hats.

  • Reports and analytics: Automatically generate daily, weekly and monthly safety KPI reports for government audits and added value in bids.

  • Mobile app: Site supervisors and client representatives can view alerts and locations in real time and chat with the AI assistant.

The cloud backend and command-center dashboard help businesses manage multiple projects simultaneously, reduce manual inspection costs and strengthen competitiveness through digital capabilities.

3. iDaka's Core Value and Differentiation

  • Vertical integration and comprehensive OEM/ODM capabilities

    1. iDaka develops sensor hardware and cloud AI algorithms in-house, with flexible customization for different site requirements.

    2. Ease of use is a priority: mount-and-use installation avoids extensive cabling and lowers deployment barriers.

    The mobile app can serve as a base station and relay data from multiple sensor nodes. Workers can use a phone to upload local site information without an existing on-site network.

    1. iDaka's next step is an online shop where small and medium-sized contractors can easily purchase sensors, AI modules and installation services.

    2. A regional partnership program localizes installation, customer service and maintenance, bringing timely technical support closer to each site.

4. Looking Ahead: iDaka's Vision and Next Steps

At the end of the interview, CEO Huang Wei-Hao shared iDaka's medium- and long-term vision:

  1. Deeper BIM, AI and IoT integration

    Connect building information modeling (BIM) data with the cloud sensing platform so 3D site models can display dust hotspots and dangerous structural tilt directly, helping engineers manage quality and plan progress in real time.

  2. Expanding into low-carbon and green-energy solutions

    Use AI to accurately monitor energy consumption and carbon emissions, introduce green-energy solutions to construction sites, and help clients verify emissions reductions and meet increasingly strict environmental requirements.

  3. Building a smart construction ecosystem

    Integrate big-data analytics, site asset management and supply-chain collaboration into an intelligent occupational-safety ecosystem where personnel, equipment and materials exchange information and coordinate in real time on one platform.
